Nausicaa Fan Art by Tallychyck Nausicaa Fan Art by Tallychyck
Fan art for Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind (Kaze no Tani no Naushika).

There's a story behind this one...
I drew this when I heard that Miyazaki would be coming to Comic-Con 2009. I figured that if there was any chance of giving him fan art, I'd be a fool not to at least try.
I slept outside overnight in line and got into the second row of Hall H, and went to the stage between panels to ask a security guard if there was any way he could get the original art to Miyazaki. The guard smiled and said, "Sure!" and disappeared backstage. Five minutes later he came out, made eye contact with me from across the room, and shook his head slowly. Haha. Oh well. I was thrilled to see Miyazaki, and glad that I at least tried with the art.

Higgins waterproof ink, Rosemary & Co. Kolinsky size 2 brush, Cotman watercolors.

This is definitely my absolute favorite picture of Nausicaa EVER, and Nausicaa is absolutely my favorite character/story EVER, so that's saying something. Your depiction of her has been my desktop picture multiple times. Please, continue to be amazing... for the sake of humanity.

I will paraphrase here what I said there. I like that though you use dark, bold lines, you can still deliver a delicately rendered picture that perfectly captures Nausicaa's gentle and tender feelings towards the environment. Her pose and expression is beautiful -- a bittersweet moment. And you did it without drawing huge eyes brimming with tears. Well done.

Aww, it really feel like it's in that place.
Her left hand seems a bit thin, but not many will notice something like that!

Amazing drawing. It's a shame that I'll have to cut it to fit my horizontally biased desktop :\

Love the coloring! And nobody ever draws Nausicaa with just her chain mail on. You get bonus points. ^^
